Motorola Droid Bionic is one of the most hyped Android devices recently. It has also been plagued by delays. The specifications of the device are right up there with other Android super-phones like the Samsung Galaxy S 2. The Droid Bionic however seems to have a feature which will set it apart from the rest of the Android devices – wireless charging.
According to the FCC filing for the Droid Bionic, the device has an “inductive battery charging door and embedded pick-up coil”. Here is a photo taken from the FCC filing:
Technologically inductive wireless charging is not new. Devices such as the Palm Pre already supports inductive wireless charging. With inductive charging, the device has to be kept on a special base to charge it up instead of connecting it using wire. Apple is also rumored to be working on wireless charging for the iPhone 6 – although it is said to be based on a different technology called near-field magnetic resonance.
