RIM has announced a new enterprise solution that should make mobile device management less of a headache within an organization. The new solution, called the BlackBerry Mobile Fusion, will allow the IT department to manage not only BlackBerry phones, but also devices running Android and iOS.
This is how Alan Panezic, Vice President, Enterprise Product Management and Marketing at RIM described BlackBerry Mobile Fusion:
BlackBerry Mobile Fusion brings together our industry-leading BlackBerry Enterprise Server technology for BlackBerry devices with mobile device management capabilities for iOS and Android devices, all managed from one web-based console. It provides the necessary management capabilities to allow IT departments to confidently oversee the use of both company-owned and employee-owned mobile devices within their organizations.
BlackBerry Mobile Fusion will allow a company’s IT department to manage various aspects of the employee’s device such as:
- Configuration management
- Security and policy definition and management
- Secure and protect lost or stolen devices (remote lock, wipe)
- User- and group-based administration
- Connectivity management
BlackBerry Mobile Fusion is expected to be available by March 2012. RIM says that it is currently under closed beta testing. Another round of closed beta testing is expected in January before it is finally made public.
