Fusion Garage Drops Price Of Grid 10 To $299

Grid10Tablet

Remember Fusion Garage? They were the company that TechCrunch partnered with to produce the ill-fated CrunchPad – which was later launched by Fusion Garage themself as JooJoo. Recently, Fusion Garage announced a new tablet called the Grid 10. When the announcement was made, Fusion Garage said that the device will be available from September 15 with a price tag of $499. Yesterday, they have announced that things have changed.

According a new video message from Fusion Garage CEO, Chandra Rathakrishnan, the launch of the tablet has been delayed a bit and it will be available for $299 – a $200 drop from the initial announcement.

This is what Rathakrishnan said:

We know we are more than competitive on performance. As of today, we are more than competitive on price. At $299 the Grid-10 provides a new and innovative user experience at the market’s most aggressive price-performance ratio.

The Grid 10 has a very impressive hardware indeed and at a price of $299, it sounds like a very good deal. Here is the specifications of the Grid 10:

– 10.1-inch TFT LCD display with resolution of 1366×768 pixels

– 512 MB RAM

– 1GHz dual core Tegra 2 processor

– 16 GB internal storage

– Grid OS

– Front-facing 1.3 MP camera

The Grid OS that runs on the Grid OS is a custom-built version of Android. It uses a grid based UI which has received good reviews so far. However, it should be noted that since it is not actually Android, it will not get access to the Android Market or the Google Android Apps.

Fusion Garage is also planning on a 3G version of the Grid 10. According to reports, they will sell it for $399 – still a very competitive price. The new launch date for the Grid 10 is expected to be in the first week of October.
